Say what? American Football Golf? What's that all about? A while back I was pondering the fact that I love the golf course, the green grass, being out in nature, good walking exercise... but I can't play golf worth a hoot, even after taking lessons. What to do, what to do, I said to myself. This led me to think about different ways a golf course could be used, and since I love watching professional football, naturally I found a way to combine the two. Are you ready for some football? Here's how it would work:

Playing the game: AFG - American Football Golf - Football Golf is a competitive football like game played on the fairways of a golf course using an American football (as opposed to a futbol/soccer ball)! Only the offense takes to the fairways, no defensive tackling allowed; unless of course players decide to tweak the rules a bit. The object is to score as many points as possible, throwing or kicking a football down the fairway at pre-determined markers and finally the putting green, where the closest throw to land near the golf hole earns an extra point! As
you can see by my crudely drawn photo from my notebook, each player moves down the fairway toward the putting green.
The game is designed to be easier than golf and with scoring methods more closely related to football (see note below about rules and scoring). Enjoying the fairways isn't just for golfers anymore! Total body exercise in lush fields of green, plenty of fresh air, and fun for the whole family!
Who can play? This game has unlimited possibilities for who can play - men, women and children of all ages can enjoy this game as families, men/women groups, youth groups, senior citizens, special needs groups. If you can move down the fairway, throw and/or kick, you can play. But won't it damage the golf course? Absolutely not! When you think of all the damage a golf club does to the fairway and the greens, football golf will be much more kind to the golf course in general. The football could never hit the fairway with as much force as a golf ball. Think about throwing the football vs trying to hit a golf ball with a golf club, how often does the golfer rip up the fairway by digging his club into the ground instead of hitting the golf ball?
What does this have to do with Interfaith Spirit Quest? Not a whole lot. It's a way for me to introduce the game and maybe turn it into a ministry of sorts. Not sure if there will be any holy conversions on the football course, but you never know - with God all things are possible!
